Petition to End Government Inaction on Suicide Prevention:

To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Office of the Prime Minister
80 Wellington Street
Ottawa, ON K1A 0A2

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

I, _____________________________, am writing to you in protest of the government of Canada’s current inaction to address the suicide crisis affecting young people in our country.  As of the writing of this letter suicide is the second leading cause of death among people between the ages of 15 and 35 in this country.  At last count we were losing 4,000 Canadians to suicide a year.  Many of these deaths are happening in poor and marginalized communities.  Many of our Indigenous communities are facing suicide rates that are 10 to 25 times the national average.  Many, many of these deaths are completely preventable.

Canada is one of the richest countries in the world, and yet it remains the only developed nation that refuses to implement a national, government-led and funded prevention program to address this public health crisis.  I feel that this is an unacceptable failing and must be addressed.

I beseech you, as the leader of our country, to make a national government-led suicide prevention program a priority.

Sincerely,
